Can toughened glass be used for aquaria?

Monolithic toughened glass would not usually be considered suitable for use in a fish tank or aquarium application. Due to the fracture characteristics of toughened glass, laminated toughened glass in such applications should always contain one redundant ply of toughened glass which has not been taken into account when assessing the stress induced in the glass.

The Pilkington Utility online calculator available in MyPilkington can be used to determine a suitable glass type and thickness for aquaria. To register for MyPilkington, please click here.
