What are the benefits of toughened glass?

There are many benefits of toughened glass, including its high mechanical strength and resistance to loads. It also has a high resistance to thermal stresses generated in glass during the normal use of a building - typically, up to a temperature differential in excess of 200°C. If the glass fractures for any reason, it breaks into small, relatively harmless fragments of glass which are considerably less harmful than the shards normally obtained from breaking ordinary annealed glass.
