Which standard covers glass and manual attack?

BS EN 356 Glass in building - Security glazing - Testing and classification of resistance against manual attack is the British and European Standard that addresses resistance to manual attack (burglar resistance).

In this standard, glass is tested in two ways:

  1. Hard body drop test – 4.11kg steel sphere
  2. Axe test
Glass is given a category of resistance depending on drop height and number of strikes before penetration. For (i) the classification ranges from P1A to P5A and for (ii) the range is from P6B to P8B. Pilkington Optilam™ has been successfully tested to all of these classifications and the correct glass for each depends upon the glass configuration (e.g. glass and interlayers).
