Pilkington United Kingdom Limited, part of the NSG Group, has entered into a new strategic trading agreement with Morgan Sindall Group - to support the construction services giant’s design teams to maximise opportunities for the sustainable use of architectural glass in projects.

The plans follow Pilkington UK becoming the first architectural glass manufacturer in the world in 2021 to trial the firing of hydrogen in a glass furnace. Last year, the glass manufacturer also launched architectural glass Pilkington Mirai™, which features 52% less embodied carbon – certified as the lowest carbon glass product of its kind.

Pilkington manufacture glass for use in buildings and vehicles

The carbon capture trial announced today is now successfully underway in St Helens, UK, at Pilkington UK’s glass manufacturing site, part of NSG Group. It is the first demonstration of a carbon-capture technology on an industrial flat glass furnace in Europe.

Pilkington Mirai™ can be offered as a low carbon alternative to regular float glass, with no difference in performance, quality, or aesthetic appearance. It’s been pioneered using a combination of alternative fuel, high recycled glass content, and green electricity sources.
