The NSG Group has donated a new piece of street furniture to Skierniewice, home to one of the company's Polish processing sites.

Glass benches in Skierniewice

On Tuesday 8 July, the city gained five unique, colourful glass benches designed with sustainable development in mind. This is the result of a collaboration between Pilkington IGP and the city, who have focused on the aesthetics and functionality of public spaces for years.

A symbolic handover of the colourful benches to the residents took place at 12:30 p.m. on that day in front of the Centre for Culture and Art at 33 Reymonta Street. The installation marks the next stage in the unique collaboration between the city and Pilkington IGP, which began five years ago with the interactive exhibition ‘From Sand to Glass’.

The event was attended by Krzysztof Jażdżyk, Mayor of Skierniewice, and Mariusz Przywora, Director of the Pikington IGP Cracow, Skierniewice and Sandomierz branches, who represented the NSG Group responsible for the project.

Mariusz Przywora, Director of the Pilkington IGP Cracow, Skierniewice and Sandomierz branches and Krzysztof Jażdżyk, Mayor of Skierniewice“These are not just benches – they are a small but concrete step towards making urban spaces more beautiful and welcoming. We are delighted to have been able to contribute something durable and aesthetically pleasing to Skierniewice's everyday landscape,” says Mariusz Przywora.

The benches are made of Pilkington Optilam™ Clear laminated toughened glass, making them durable and resistant to damage. Importantly, even if the glass breaks, it does not shatter — the pieces remain stuck to the film, so there is no risk of injury. This simple solution works well in public spaces.

The glass backrests with printed colourful flowers are their greatest decoration – a motif that matches the character of the city and its gardening traditions perfectly. The modern design combines aesthetics, functionality, and a symbolic message.

“I would like to thank Pilkington IGP for our fruitful cooperation, thanks to which we can transform public spaces in interesting ways, making them more colourful, functional, and welcoming for residents. I can already reveal that we have more joint initiatives ahead of us, including the unique 'Historical Glass Walk' project, which will combine modernity with the history of our city,” said Krzysztof Jażdżyk, Mayor of Skierniewice.

Glass benches in SkierniewiceThis initiative is part of the makechange™ campaign, which aims to encourage positive changes in everyday activities in both environmental and social spheres. As part of the NSG Group, Pilkington IGP is actively working to reduce CO₂ emissions and create more sustainable products.

“Every project, even the smallest one, can make a difference. makechange™ is an idea that talks about everyday decisions and how they add up to create bigger change. These benches are not just a product – they are a symbol of this approach,” emphasised Mariusz Przywora.
