As an alternative to safety film, there is a new generation of mirrors such as Pilkington Mirropane™ Chrome and Pilkington Optimirror™ Protect Plus. Traditional mirrors cannot be toughened or laminated, but Pilkington Mirropane™ Chrome can.

Pilkington OptAR™ Plus is a monolithic anti-reflective glass. Pilkington Optifloat™ Clear Pilkington Optifloat™ Clear is our high quality clear float glass with an unrivalled environmental pedigree.

Float glass is made into mirrors in a process which deposits a thin film of high purity silver on one surface of the glass. A further thin film is then deposited to protect the silver from oxidation. Finally, a ceramic paint is applied. This is the process by which Pilkington Optimirror™ Plus is made.

A double glazing unit combining Pilkington K Glass™ on Surface 4 (counting from the outside) with Pilkington Optitherm™ S1 Plus ultra low-emissivity glass on Surface 2. With this combination, a very low U g -value of 0.9 W/m²K can be achieved, approaching the performance of triple glazing.
