Pilkington's range of fire-resistant glass is made up of four product lines, each representing different performance profiles. This ensures precise and economical correspondence to the safety requirements in terms of the specific building structure, the building code regulations and the intended use of the building.

Off-line processes use a vacuum coating technology called sputtering. A 'target' material is bombarded to produce atoms which are deposited on the glass. This process is used to make products such as Pilkington Optitherm ™ and Pilkington Suncool ™. Plies of glass are bonded or laminated together with a layer of polymer film in between.

Glass for Pilkington Planar™ is fully toughened and heat-soaked float, the thickness for single or double glazed panels being determined by the maximum loading conditions to be encountered in service. Laminated glass is also used.
