Applications
Pilkington Profilit™ can be used in interior or exterior applications e.g. industrial, commercial or residential buildings. The "U-shaped" channels can be installed either vertically or horizontally. The glass is available in a variety of colours and textures with varying translucency, allowing for the passage of natural light without the loss of privacy.
Pilkington Profilit™ is energy-efficient, provides excellent sound reduction and is one of the most cost-efficient glass wall systems available. It can be single or double shelled.
The profiled glass system Pilkington Profilit™, which is primarily known from commercial and functional architecture, is increasingly finding use in the demanding area of creative architectural design. By extending the range of glass types and system components the manufacturer is supporting many new areas of application.
However much we may like transparent, light-filled architecture, there are certain areas of a building where daylight is desirable but visibility is not – whether for reasons of privacy or because of directly adjacent buildings. In this type of construction situation Pilkington Profilit™ is a unique design element: although allowing between 81% and 89% of natural daylight to pass through the light green shell of the building, depending on the grade, only the vague outlines of people and surroundings can be made out from either outside or inside. Its interplay with artificial light is also interesting: with carefully chosen interior lighting attractive lighting effects can be created in the evening and at night, giving the building a unique appearance. The profiled glass system is therefore classed as a kind of hybrid in the design portfolio of any architect seeking a new take on the interaction between open and closed perspectives in façades and interiors.
