Introducing Pilkington Mirai Øne™: Øne step closer to sustainability

Date: 16 June 2026

The NSG Group has introduced Pilkington Mirai Øne™, a new architectural float glass offering over 35% less embodied carbon compared to its standard float glass, aimed at supporting lower-impact material choices in the built environment. It forms part of Groups wider sustainability commitments, including investments in alternative fuel trials, carbon capture technology to reduce furnace emissions, and recycling initiatives under their makechange™ platform.

Pilkington Mirai Øne™ is designed to help reduce carbon emissions while meeting the criteria for a wide range of specifications. It provides a lower-carbon option within familiar float glass parameters with an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), verified by an independent third party currently in preparation.

Achieved by increasing the use of recycled content – thereby reducing reliance on virgin raw materials – alongside other decarbonisation measures outlined in their roadmap and when coated, laminated, or further processed, the glass delivers the same high standards of aesthetics, quality, and performance as conventional float glass.

By reducing carbon emissions during manufacture and considering how it can be used in coated or insulated glazing units (IGUs), Pilkington Mirai Øne™ will help design teams cut the environmental impact of buildings throughout their lifetime.

Pilkington Mirai Øne™ builds on the foundation of Pilkington Mirai™, launched in 2023 as the architectural glass markets’ lowest embodied carbon float glass to date, offering a 52% reduction in embodied carbon. While Pilkington Mirai™ is suited to projects with more ambitious carbon targets, Pilkington Mirai Øne™ is a lower carbon offering that provides a more widely accessible solution, balancing meaningful emission reductions with greater flexibility in specification and procurement.

Both solutions are part of the growing Pilkington Mirai™ range offering more sustainable choices for those focused on reducing the embodied carbon of architectural projects using a lower carbon glass offering. Pilkington Mirai Øne™ is designed as a versatile, accessible solution for meeting sustainability targets while maintaining the flexibility required across commercial and residential applications.

It enables architects, specifiers and contractors to select a lower-carbon alternative with expected performance characteristics and availability. The product is in the process of obtaining a verified EPD and supports embodied carbon benchmarks aligned with building sustainability standards such as LEED and BREEAM. It also aligns with tightening regulatory requirements, including the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, which is increasing focus on embodied carbon transparency in construction materials.

The introduction of Pilkington Mirai Øne™ reflects NSG Groups commitment to continuous innovation in sustainable manufacturing and brings the company “øne step closer to sustainability” by helping to lower the environmental impact of construction materials at scale. It is supported through the broader makechange platform, which includes the renew:glass initiative to help drive the transition to a circular glass economy and reduce the amount of glass ending up in landfill by recycling responsibly.

Kristian Chalmers, Global Strategic Commercial Manager at the NSG Group, said:

“The drive to cut embodied carbon is accelerating across the construction industry and building materials like glass are central to that transformation.

“With Pilkington Mirai Øne™, we’re expanding the Pilkington Mirai™ family to deliver a solution that meets the industry’s growing need for lower-carbon materials that are not only effective, but also readily available.

“This launch represents a meaningful step forward – part of a broader commitment to helping the built environment deliver on their sustainability goals, without compromising on real-world project demands.”

Pilkington Mirai Øne™ is now available across European markets, offering building owners, as well as architects and specifiers a practical route to carbon savings within conventional projects.
