During the warmer months, having too much heat or light enter through the window can be as problematic as trying to keep heat in during the colder months. Fortunately, you don't have to compromise on energy efficiency to reduce solar heat gain, as we offer products that combine both.
There are several ways to control the sun's heat. The most popular method is to use body-tinted glass, such as Pilkington Optifloat™ Tint or High Performance Tins, which simply reduce the amount of heat transmitted through the glass. A similar effect can be achieved using Pilkington Optilam™ I Colour, which is a sandwich of glass with a tinted interlayer. For higher performance levels, coated glass such as Pilkington Suncool™ can be used; this can be clear or coloured. You just need to decide on the required level of light transmission and solar heat reduction.
It is important to realise that any solar control glass product will only reduce the rate of solar gain, and that such products do not work in isolation. Adequate ventilation must be incorporated into the room to prevent reduced solar gain building up to an uncomfortable level.
