The sixth NSG Group Health & Safety Project Award has been awarded to Automotive OE North America for their ‘Safety Patrol’ project.

The project team worked together to build from old or existing approaches to behavioral safety, to create a structured approach to Gemba Walks (Safety Patrol). This project is culturally very important and promotes a consistent approach to leaders walking the shop floor, recording discussions, hazards and concerns that were observed. The Safety Patrol records are consistently analyzed for trends and reacted to by the sites.

The winner was chosen from a shortlist of ten projects out of 90 entries in total. The judging panel made four additional Commendation as follows:

Maizuru and Kyoto Plants, Automotive OE, Japan: ‘Heat stroke prevention - Air circulation uniform”
Avoidance of heat strokes is a long-standing challenge in Maizuru and Kyoto. The team tested and implemented innovative jackets with integrated electric ventilation fans for the production and maintenance teams as well as visitors.

NGF Europe, Creative Technology SBU, UK: ‘Risk Reduction Project’
The challenge was to remove the need to run cord/yarn over fingers/hands at start-ups. The risk reduction team developed new tools and procedures, collaborating extensively with the operators.

Architectural Glass Downstream, Poland: ‘Safe handling of glass’
The team visualized Health & Safety rules for the manual handling of glass in very practical ways: terminal displays of cutting tables, boards at vacuum lifters and logistic stickers on trolleys and glass, enabling the availability of safety information where required.

Munro plant, Automotive OE, Argentina: ‘Roof control by Drone’
This project reduces the need and risk of working at height to inspect the site roof. A drone used by licensed pilots record videos and take photos to determine needs for repair or cleaning. This project was selected as it adopted a formerly presented idea (Maizuru EHS Commendation Award 2018) and adjusted it to manage risks and needs locally.

Every project clearly demonstrated a high level of commitment to safety, which can help NSG Group to achieve the highest level of safety in all-industry basis.
