Extra clear glass Pilkington Optiwhite™ is now made in Italy

Press Release
22 Mar 2018

From today an extra clear glass - most appreciated by the market - is also produced in the Pilkington Italia plant in Venice, where the glass production was restarted just a few months ago. The extra clear glass Pilkington Optiwhite™ exceeds the ordinary concept of the glass transparency.

Comparison of Pilkington Optiwhite™ with standard clear float

Compared to traditional clear float glass, in fact, it guarantees an excellent neutrality in transmission and a superb colour rendering, which allows to appreciate the colours of the objects behind the glass without any alteration. The colours remain bright and perfectly natural.

Moreover, thanks to the high light transmission and almost no green cast inherent to other glasses, it is perfect for applications with exposed edges, in which the edge of the standard float glass, especially in large thickness, would have a greenish tint due to the iron oxides contained in the raw materials.

Pilkington Optiwhite™ is an extra clear glass, obtained from a rigorous selection of raw materials, high grade sand with a reduced iron oxide content, and through careful control of various parameters during the melting process, to provide the market with a product of excellent performance.

Thanks to its extraordinary colour neutrality, this glass is the ideal product for showcases that contain paintings, valuable objects and works of art, as well as for interior design solutions, where it is successfully used for stairs, furniture, balustrades and partitions.

When used for windows, Pilkington Optiwhite™ allows maximum light transmission, so it is strongly recommended in buildings that do not receive enough light from the outside, allowing electricity costs savings.

It can be used both as monolithic and in insulating glass units, in combination with other Pilkington glass products.

Thanks to the availability of Pilkington Optiwhite™ in thicknesses from 2 mm to 19 mm, NSG Group offers architects and designers the widest range of extra clear glass in the market. The glass can also be used as a substrate for a number of other functional glass products providing thermal insulation (Pilkington K Glass™ OW or Pilkington Optitherm™ S3 OW), solar control and low-e properties (Pilkington Suncool™ OW range), noise control (Pilkington Optiphon™ OW), safety and security (Pilkington Optilam™ OW) and more.
