BAU in Munich will again open its doors from 13 to 17 January 2025, making it the international meeting place for architects, engineers, investors, retailers and trade professionals. As the world's leading trade fair for architecture, materials and systems, it offers the ideal platform for presenting pioneering innovations. The NSG Group will be represented by a strong team of experts in façade and special glass, fire-resistant glass and channel glass.
The NSG Group will present its top products and latest glass solutions on a 180 square metre area. The focus will not only be on technical excellence and consulting expertise, but also on one of the most burning issues of our time: resource conservation.
A look into the future: Pilkington Mirai™
A highlight of the trade fair will be the presentation of Pilkington Mirai™, a glass that sets new standards in terms of sustainability. ‘Mirai’ means “future” in Japanese – and that is exactly what this innovative product embodies.
Pilkington Mirai™ is a low-carbon glass that has a 52% lower carbon footprint compared to standard glass products. This is achieved through the use of alternative fuels, a high proportion of recycled glass content and the use of green electricity sources. Pilkington Mirai™ is a pioneering solution for architects and building owners looking for sustainable materials to fulfil the stringent requirements of environmentally friendly construction.
‘renew:glass’ - a cycle for glass
Another key topic at the NSG Group stand is the new renew:glass initiative, which emphasises the urgent need for a closed material cycle for glass. Although recycling one tonne of used glass can save 700 kg of CO2, less than one per cent of float glass waste is currently recycled worldwide.
With renew:glass, the NSG Group is committed to a circular economy and is working with partners to increase the recycling rate. The aim is to recycle more float glass responsibly and thus drastically reduce the amount of glass waste that ends up in landfill sites.
Paving the way for a sustainable future
A particular highlight is a makechange™ platform, which plays a key role in realising the Group's sustainability goals. With this programme, the NSG Group not only aims to provide advanced glass technologies, but also to consistently align its own processes with the requirements of decarbonisation.
makechange™ brings together all measures and innovations that help to drive sustainable construction – from the development of low-carbon glass products such as Pilkington Mirai™ to the promotion of a circular economy with the renew:glass campaign.
More than just glass
At BAU 2025, the NSG Group will be demonstrating that sustainable building is multifaceted. The solutions on show include:
Pilkington AviSafe™: this bird-safe glass reduces the risk of bird collisions and thus actively contributes to species protection. The special coating is visible to birds without compromising aesthetics or transparency.
Pilkington Sunplus™ BIPV: Photovoltaic glass that not only generates energy, but also fulfils functions such as thermal insulation, sound insulation and burglary protection. It therefore offers a sustainable solution for modern building envelopes and supports the path to climate targets.
Durable fire-resistant glass: with products such as Pilkington Pyrostop®, which have stood for safety and aesthetics since 1978, the NSG Group focuses on durability. The combination options – from special coatings to decorative elements – make these glass products all-round talents.
