Did the Green Homes Grant Scheme cover glazing?

The Government closed its Green Homes Grant Voucher Scheme to new applications on 31st March 2021.  Instead funding will be delivered via local authorities in England through an extension of the Green Homes Grant Local Authority Delivery Scheme to help lower income households to cut emissions and save money on bills.

Launched in September 2020, the Green Homes Grant provided homeowners with vouchers for energy efficiency improvements, in which the government covered two-thirds of the cost of the installation.

The grants were provided in the form of vouchers which were used towards making energy-efficient improvements to homes.  In order to obtain a voucher, homeowners had to make an online application for recommended energy efficiency measures, with details forwarded to accredited local suppliers.

Qualifying measures were split into primary and secondary measures. The latter included replacing single glazing with double or triple glazing windows, or upgrading to secondary glazing, as well as upgrading doors to energy efficient alternatives (i.e. replacement of doors fitted prior to 2002). To qualify for the secondary measures, householders had to have one of the primary measures carried out and ensure that the cost of the secondary measures did not exceed that of the primary measures.

Landlords or homeowners in England were able to apply to the scheme. It was means-tested, with part-funding for measures covering up to two-thirds of the cost, subject to a ceiling of £5,000 for those not on low incomes, but the full cost of these measures were subjected to a ceiling of £10,000 available for low-income households.

Once one of the suppliers had issued a quote, and the requested work approved, then the government issued the voucher towards the work.
