Pilkington Optilam™ is a laminated safety and security glass intended to help reduce the risk of injury from accidental impact or glass breakage. It is manufactured by permanently bonding two or more panes of glass together using a transparent interlayer, typically polyvinyl butyral (PVB).

When fractured, the glass fragments adhere to the interlayer, helping to maintain the integrity of the pane and reduce the likelihood of glass falling from the opening. This enables the product to be specified in applications where safety glazing is required in accordance with relevant building standards.

Pilkington Optilam™ can be incorporated into a wide range of glazing systems and may also be combined with other Pilkington UK glass products to provide multi-functional characteristics such as solar control, thermal insulation, or acoustic control where required.
