Pilkington Profilit™

Pilkington Profilit™ offers a translucent linear channel glass system.

Pilkington Profilit™ is an alkali cast glass in U-shape, which is produced according to EN 572, Part 7, using the machine rolling process. It is translucent, but not transparent, with or without a patterned surface on the outside and has the quality features of cast glass. This highly durable product allows light to enter buildings whilst presenting a translucent external appearance. A wide range of fitting options provides considerable flexibility.

Pilkington Profilit™ is energy-efficient, it provides excellent sound reduction and is one of the most cost-efficient glass wall systems available. It can be single or double shelled. Triple glazed setups Pilkington Profilit™ “one in 2” and “2 plus one” with the new Pilkington Profilit™ “low-e plus” coating for improved performance and Ug-values from 1.2 W/m²K to 0.61 W/m²K, g-values down to below 0.2 and Rw up to 57 dB.

Features & Benefits

  • Provides high light diffusion and excellent sound reduction.
  • Can be fitted in single or double shell, vertically or horizontally.
  • Can be attained in large curtain walling sizes.
  • Allows the construction of curved walls.
  • Rapid and easy maintenance and replacement.
  • Available with thermal insulation and solar control coatings.
  • Available with safety characteristics (thermally toughened).
  • Available in different designs e.g. different textures, dimensions, colours.

Applications

Pilkington Profilit™ channel glass with its installation system offers many interesting and varied architectural solutions. It is developed for use in glass façades, walls or roofs, and also for internal glazing applications, in industrial, commercial or residential buildings.

The system, which is primarily known from commercial and functional architecture, is increasingly finding use in the demanding area of creative architectural design. By extending the range of glass types and system components the manufacturer is supporting many new areas of application.

There are certain areas of a building where daylight is desirable but visibility is not – whether for reasons of privacy or because of directly adjacent buildings. In this type of construction situation Pilkington Profilit™ is a unique design element: although allowing natural daylight to pass through the glazing, only the vague outlines of people and surroundings can be made out from either outside or inside.

Its interplay with artificial light is also interesting: with carefully chosen interior lighting attractive lighting effects can be created in the evening and at night, giving the building a unique appearance.

The profiled glass system is therefore classed as a kind of hybrid in the design portfolio of any architect seeking a new take on the interaction between open and closed perspectives in façades and interiors.

Sports Centre Applications

For sports centre glazing subject to ball impact, a double skin special profile Pilkington Profilit™ K22/60/7, K25/60/7 or K32/60/7 construction should be selected, as permitted for ball impact glazing in accordance with DIN 18032, Part 3.

The profile should be used without wires.

Please consider special application requirements.

Spectrum Calculation Program

Pilkington Spectrum is a Windows-based glass performance model which enables you to quickly and efficiently calculate key properties of insulating glass units without the need to construct and measure them. You can use Pilkington Spectrum to provide the following information:

  • Light and solar properties (transmittance, reflectance, absorptance, g value, etc.).
  • Centre pane Ug-value.
  • Sound insulation values.
  • Ultra violet (uv) transmittance and colour rendering index (Ra).
  • Other properties (e.g. pendulum body impact resistance, fire resistance, resistance to manual attack, etc.).
