Business Overview
Automotive
Pilkington Automotive’s first manufacturing plant in India launched production in November 2008.
The laminated windscreen facility, built at Vizag, in the state of Andhra Pradesh in the south-east of the country, is the first phase of a three-stage investment programme which will also include an OE facility and a float plant.
Vizag is a centre of the steel and shipyard industries and is served by one of the largest ports in India. It is currently a boom area for industrial investment within the state, with good road links to Chennai and Kolkata and an international airport planned for the future. The new plant will serve the AGR market with a capacity of 480,000 parts per year, initially for export only. However, the company is licensed to sell up to 50 per cent of its production into the domestic market in the future. The company has recently started its sales in Indian Automotive Glass Replacement market.
