The leading trade association of the construction product manufacturers and distributors has called on all stakeholders in the energy efficiency and retrofit sector to be 'Smarter Together' for energy efficiency.

In its new brochure, the Construction Products Association (CPA) outlines its five point plan for organising and structuring the sector to realise the potential in our ageing and inefficient buildings.

Highlighting that the UK's housing stock is the oldest in Europe and more than 20 million homes could benefit from one or measures to improve energy efficiency, the CPA identifies the need for the following:

- Planned thought leadership
- A commonly-agreed framework of regulations and standards
- Financial processes that are competitive, transparent and logical
- Verification and certification that ensures compliant, completed work
- Communications that target all key stakeholders identifying the relevant core messages

The construction products industry is a large and varied sector, with a turnover of more than £47 billion and directly providing 300,000 jobs. The CPA is optimistic that it can bring together the industry to work with Government, consumers and other stakeholders to deliver the energy efficiency transformation that the UK building stock needs.
