GGF remains cautious as Green Deal launches

On Jan 28th, the Government officially launched Green Deal and ECO (Energy Company Obligation) to the UK Market, however the GGF still remains cautious about the scheme’s impact on the Glass and Glazing Industry.

Nigel Rees, GGF Group Chief Executive commented, “While we would like to see Green Deal work for our Members and we are keen for homeowners to make their properties more energy efficient, we are still not convinced that Green Deal will have a huge impact on our Members’ businesses and the industry in general. This is primarily due to the reasons we have highlighted for the last 12 months, namely bureaucracy, over complication and the many better options for homeowners wanting to improve the energy efficiency of their properties.”

The GGF’s position has been established from the Federation’s numerous meetings with many parties, Members debates and consultation responses throughout 2011 and 2012. In 2013, the GGF senior staff will continue to attend meetings with DECC (Department of Energy and Climate Change) as well as other organisations involved in Green Deal such as Green Deal providers, assessors and potential partners.
