Burning Questions, Brilliant Solutions. Specifying the right type of fire-resistant glass

02 Mar 2012

Choosing the right fire resistant glass for your application is vital as it’s important to know that the product specified and installed will perform as intended should a fire occur. Our knowledge and unique software, Specifire, will advise you on the right type of glass to suit your specific project.

Pilkington’s Fire Protection

Pilkington is consistently investing in the development and testing of its range of fire-resistant glass to ensure that we provide a range of glazing options with varying levels of protection to suit your needs.

The protection levels are measured in defined time periods ranging from 30 to 180 minutes. They are also measured by integrity and insulation. Integrity looks at the ability of the glass to retain the flames and remain in place by withstanding cracking and damage caused by the pressure created in a fire. Insulation is the measure used to assess how long the glass can keep the surface temperature down within prescribed limits during a fire.

Pilkington Pyrostop® and Pilkington Pyrodur® are just two of the glazing solutions designed to provide outstanding fire performance.

Pilkington Pyrostop® – a transparent alternative to a solid firewall – is a clear multi-laminated impact resistant, fire resistant glass, that helps restrict the spread of flames, hot gases and heat. Measuring between 15 to 62mm in thickness, this glazing solution offers up to 120 minutes of integrity and insulation, and is used whenever a large, robust fire protection shield is desired.

Pilkington Pyrodur®, is a range of clear laminated fire and impact resistant glass, from 7mm to 13mm thickness which provides up to 60 minutes of Integrity fire protection, making it an ideal glazing solution for use in internal doors and partitions.
