Gassiot House – a Healthy Use of Pilkington Planar™

Pilkington Planar™ structural glazing was chosen for its strength and structural integrity,  for the refurbishment of Gassiot House at St Thomas’ Hospital, which opened in June 2012. Around 150 sq metres of the innovative glazing system was used to create a brighter and more user-friendly reception area for out-patients visiting the hospital in Southwark, London.

St Thomas’ is a large NHS historic institution that has provided free healthcare since the 12th Century, and now as part of the Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundations Trust, it is also now renowned as a teaching hospital.

Gassiot House

The £4.8m upgrade to the hospital’s Gassiot House building, which opened in June, included an extensive refurbishment to the ground floor – altering the floor plan to house four separate outpatient clinics plus the addition of a glazed atrium.

The specification of Pilkington Planar™ structural glazing helped transform the refurbished areas, as well as the external courtyard, into a light-filled open-plan waiting area – creating a relaxed but modern environment for the 500,000 annual patients.
