The Part L 2020 consultation process has commenced with proposals being released for new dwellings. The corresponding proposals have yet to be issued for existing dwellings, including conservatories added to existing dwellings.
The consultation on proposed changes for existing dwellings, including conservatories, is anticipated in accordance with the following timeline:
| Late 2019 / early 2020
|| Consultation on energy efficiency standards for work carried out in existing dwellings
| Early / mid 2020
|| Publication of new Part L, Part F and overheating regulations
| Mid / late 2020
|| Part L, Part F and overheating regulations come into force
In the current version of Approved Document L1B, a conservatory with a floor area less than 30m2
is exempt from the energy efficiency requirements. This is provided there is an appropriate thermal separation between the conservatory and dwelling and the heating system of the dwelling is not extended into the conservatory. Where these conditions cannot be met, then the glazed elements should meet the requirements for replacement windows and doors (referred to as controlled fittings).
