Technology
Graduates joining Research and Development at Pilkington work with colleagues from Manufacturing, Marketing and Engineering in multi-disciplinary project teams, to improve existing products or processes and to develop and bring new ones on stream.
Activities also cover the assessment of new and emerging technologies, which could impact the Group's business in the longer term or provide novel solutions to established problems connected with products or processes.
Working in multi-disciplinary teams offers individuals an early insight into the work of other functions within the business.
There are significant, innovative challenges, both to solve known problems and to identify new opportunities, in a fast moving, customer oriented, technological environment.
The main Technical Centre is in the UK with a smaller presence also in Italy and Germany. Projects are focused on achieving globally applicable results. As this demands extensive collaboration with colleagues overseas, international travel is required. Within the UK Technical Centre are teams focused on providing the necessary technology support to the Building Products and Automotive Products businesses. Where there are common technologies there is significant cooperation between these teams.
Recruitment needs can require applicants to have skills and qualifications in particular areas of technology but there are also opportunities for those with more general scientific background.
Career direction and personal growth plans are developed with each individual. Career paths leading to roles with significant responsibility are available both within Technology and by career development moves to other functions. To support this objective, the general business training provided to all graduates is available to those joining Technology, including the Diploma in Management.
Please see the Vacancies page to check which functional areas we have vacancies in.
