In 1964, the legendary science fiction writer, Isaac Asimov, visited the World's Fair where he gave his futuristic predictions of what he thought the world would be like in 2014 – 50 years into the future at the time.

Discussing his predictions, he envisaged a multitude of ideas including moving pavements and goods that travelled via compressed air tubes. During one point he also hinted towards the future of
glazing, stating that windows and natural sunlight would be traded for walls and ceilings that glow in different colours – partly because we would all live underground to make room on the surface for huge farms, ranches and parks.
Despite Asimov’s original thoughts on
glass becoming outdated, glazing has become a vital part of any build with major landmarks such as; The Shard (London), The Louvre Pyramid (Paris) and The Burj Al Arab (Dubai), all showcasing major
glass facades, some of which are made entirely out of
glass.
Showing the strength of
glass product development, here at
Pilkington we offer a huge range of unique
glass applications ranging from fire protection to solar control and structural glazing. And with more being developed each year, it seems the market for
glass will continue to expand over the following years.
