Pilkington in the USA

Pilkington North America manufactures and markets flat and safety glass for the building and automotive markets. Its sales are made up of 27 per cent building products and 73 per cent automotive products. The Group has six float glass lines, six automotive glass fabrication operations, and a network of some 100 wholesale centers supplying automotive replacement glass. The North American automotive business is made up of 56 per cent Original Equipment (OE) and 44 per cent Automotive Glass Replacement AGR.

Automotive operations

The automotive fabrication operations in North America consist of the following plants:

  • Collingwood, Ontario, Canada – production of laminated glass.
  • Shelbyville, Indiana – production of toughened glass.
  • Versailles, Kentucky – production of both laminated and toughened glass.
  • Mexicali, Mexico - production of laminated glass.
  • Clinton and Niles, Michigan - encapsulation and hardware application of automotive glass products. 

Automotive aftermarket operations

The aftermarket operations in North America supply laminated and toughened glass for the automotive glass replacement market. The ratio of laminated to toughened glass is approximately 3:1. Products are shipped from its 400,000-sq. ft. distribution center in Columbus, Ohio to external retailers and wholesale customers. In addition, the business has some 100 company-owned wholesale service centers.
