Pilkington Sweden fights schools drug abuse

23 July 2007
Pilkington is sponsoring schools information packs about drugs and drug abuse in Sweden.
Every high school student in Sweden receives about five hours instruction on drugs and the Swedish Narcotic Police Association (SNPF) supplies the schools with teaching material, including factual books and teachers' guides, which is updated every third school term.
As a member of the country's Business Life Against Drugs organisation, launched by the SNPF in 1997, Pilkington has been sponsoring this material for nearly ten years in areas where the Group has plants.
"To minimize the hazards, not at least in working life, it is important to spread information and give teens knowledge about the risks of using drugs," said Nordic HR director, Hans-Fredrik Hansson.
"Within Pilkington there is zero tolerance when it comes to drugs and our company is active in rehabilitation. Even if the company may not always be able to help all the way, we are always responsible for the employee and making sure that our workplace is safe."
