Ocean theme for Polish University

30 April 2008
Ocean waves seem to wash across the façade of the new Institute of Oceanography in Gdynia, Poland, in a stunning screen-printed effect created at Pilkington's Skierniewice plant.
The new addition to the University of Gdansk's existing Gdynia site has been designed to echo the city's maritime heritage.
The seven storey building houses a maritime exhibition hall on the ground floor and a public restaurant on the top floor offering visitors panoramic views stretching as far as the Hel peninsula. Laboratories and study rooms are on the intervening floors.
The main façade uses structural Pilkington Insulight™ Sun IGUs made of toughened Pilkington Suncool™  Brilliant 66/33 combined with Pilkington Optilam™ 8,8 for the façade. The Pilkington Suncool Brilliant 66/33 has been used again for most of the windows on the south and west façades and Pilkington Suncool HP Neutral 70/40 for the restaurant floor, combining high light transmittance with protection from excessive heat gain.
