Group builds in Colombia
30 September 2008The Group is building a new South American float plant 40km from Bogota, the capital of Colombia.
The Euros 110m project will have a capacity of 650 tonnes per day, producing both clear and tinted glass in thicknesses of 2 - 19 mm. Construction has already begun and the plant is scheduled to come on stream in October 2009.This is the NSG Group's seventh float line in the region, all of them developed through a joint venture with St Gobain - the other facilities include four lines in Brazil, one in Argentina and one in Chile.
The new plant will supply markets in Colombia, Venezuela and Ecuador. "This new float will strengthen the Group's position in the region," said Carlos Henrique Medeiros, president BP South America. "Our aim is to become market leaders on the Pacific coast, in the same way as we are on the Atlantic."
