Flat Glass Business - Health and Safety Policy
This policy does not apply to the United States operations of the Group, which are covered by a separate policy statement responsive to US legislation and practice
The NSG Group is committed to achieving the highest international standards of health and safety throughout the Group. Occupational injuries and illnesses, and damage to the environment, can be minimised through safe workplace design and safe work practices. Pilkington is determined to operate a safe work environment and safe working practices in all its sites. The President and Chief Executive Officer has the prime responsibility for Health and Safety.
- The Board expects active management of health and safety issues by managers and supervisors at all levels in the organisation. This requires the definition of responsibility and accountability, the establishment of standards, and the introduction of monitoring mechanisms.
- All employees have a responsibility to themselves, their colleagues and to their employer to work safely and do nothing which will jeopardise plant, property or the environment. Managers and supervisors must provide the necessary information and training to ensure that employees and, where appropriate, employee representatives, understand their responsibilities.
- All Chief Executives, and Group Heads, must nominate a senior manager with responsibility for health, safety and environmental matters. They must prepare and review regularly plans for complying with legislation and Group policy, and must ensure that every employee is made fully aware of these plans, which should cover health, safety and fire prevention, and the provision of information on the safe handling and use of products.
Systems for ensuring that the plans are achieved will be established at every factory and facility, and form part of the reporting system. The Chief Executive must immediately be made aware of any major incident involving severe injury or reportable fire. The Chief Executive is responsible for arranging full and regular health and safety audits of all the facilities.
The Executive Board is responsible for approving this policy. The President and Chief Executive Officer has the prime responsibility for Health and Safety.
