Building Products - Product Range & Brands

Pilkington branded products are designed to create the ideal environment in which to live and work. Coated and tinted products, and insulating glass units, help control the flow of energy into and out of buildings.

Solar Control benefit-led category icon

Solar Control

In warm weather, solar control products dramatically reduce or reflect the sun’s heat transmitted through the glass, whilst transmitting the majority of the light, thus minimising the need for airconditioning. Pilkington offers an extensive range of solar control products with different performance levels. Pilkington Eclipse Advantage™ is a pyrolytic coated solar control glass with Low-E properties that can be easily toughened or bent with no significant changes to its properties. This makes it easily available and opens a variety of design possibilities.

In the high performance area, the Pilkington Suncool™ range offers products with different light and energy combinations as well as different reflection colours for the architect to choose from. Pilkington Suncool™ products are the choice for the optimum combination of high light transmittance into the building as well as energy reduction. Based on the current trend the predominant colour offering is neutral. Solar control options are also available in combination with Pilkington Activ™, self-cleaning glass.

Thermal benefit-led category icon

Thermal Insulation

In cold weather, low emissivity (low-e) products reflect heat back into the building. The Group’s thermal insulation range includes Pilkington K Glass™ and Pilkington Energy Advantage™, both of which combine thermal insulation, ease in toughening and ease of use for the processor; and Pilkington Optitherm™ S3. These products combine unrivalled thermal insulation with high light transmittance and lower reflectance for a more neutral appearance.

Pilkington Spacia™ was the world’s first commercially-available vacuum glazing, offering the thermal performance of conventional double glazing in only the same thickness as single glass. Already successful in Japan, sales are developing worldwide, particularly within historic buildings.

Pilkington energiKare™ is an energy efficient double glazed unit innovatively using low iron float glass Pilkington Optiwhite™ in combination with Pilkington K Glass™. Sales are now developing in the UK where this exceptional combination of thermal insulation and passive solar gain helps domestic window companies meet homeowner demand for more energy efficient windows. The product is being used in both replacement windows for homes and in newly built dwellings.

Fire Protection benefit-led category icon

Fire Protection

Pilkington employs three types of technology to protect people and property against fire - wired glass (Pilkington Pyroshield™), special modified toughened glass (Pilkington Pyroclear™), and a special proprietary clear intumescent interlayer technology (Pilkington Pyrodur® and Pilkington Pyrostop®). The clear range of intumescent products is a global market leader in high performance fire-resistant glazing. The products in the range provide not only protection against flames and smoke but also a high degree of protection against the heat of a fire, from all heat transfer mechanisms. Pilkington Pyrodur® and Pilkington Pyrostop® have been tested in more fire doors, fire protection framing and façade systems than any other fire-resistant glass products, covering vertical, horizontal and inclined glazed situations. As an example of the high level capability of the intumescent interlayer system, the tested range of approvals even includes high performance insulation fire floors for timber framing systems and high performance constructions for use in the petrochemical industry. The emphasis of the Pilkington intumescent technology is on fitness for purpose, consistency and repeatability of performance. Today, Pilkington’s fire protection glasses are well respected and used in varied building, marine, and rail transport applications all over the world.

Noise Control benefit-led category icon

Noise Control

Pilkington has products that allow people to live and work in peace and quiet. For example Pilkington Optiphon™ is a laminate using a special interlayer that attenuates noise significantly in a standard laminate configuration compared to standard glazing.

Safety/Security benefit-led category icon

Safety and Security

Protecting people is the aim of the Pilkington safety glass products. Pilkington Optifloat T (toughened safety glass) and Pilkington Optilam™ provide a huge range of performance levels.

By increasing the size and number of glass sheets in laminated form, Pilkington Optilam™ security glass offers even higher levels of protection against any type of manual attack.

Self-cleaning glass benefit-led category icon

Self-Cleaning Glass

Developed for use on external windows, Pilkington Activ™ considerably reduces the amount of external maintenance required. Pilkington Activ™ is a Pilkington Optifloat™ glass with a special coating on the outside that has a unique dual action. Once exposed to daylight, the coating breaks down any organic dirt and then causes rain water to “sheet” down the glass to wash the dirt away. The coating has been designed to last as long as the glass itself.

Pilkington Activ™ also dries off faster leaving glass clean with reduced streaks, which gives you beautifully clear views, making it ideal for both windows and conservatories.

Since its launch, the product range continues to extend. In addition to Pilkington Activ™ Clear, the group have developed Pilkington Activ™ Blue and Pilkington Activ™ Neutral, combining dualacting self-cleaning properties with solar control properties, helping to keep internal temperatures cool whilst maintaining excellent light transmittance.

Pilkington Activ Suncool™ products are dual-coated products with a Pilkington Suncool ™ coating on the reverse side of the Pilkington Activ™, to combine solar control and self-cleaning. The benefits of self-cleaning can now be combined with solar control, thermal insulation, safety, security, noise control, decoration, structural systems and fire protection.

Decoration benefit-led category icon

Decoration

As well as offering functional benefits, glass is also used to enhance the appearance of the environment.

The Pilkington Texture Glass™ range is continually updated to introduce new and exciting patterns. These products are both decorative and provide privacy.

Pilkington Optimirror™ uses the latest environmentally friendly processes and materials to produce the best quality mirror available. This is now available in a safety backed version in the Pilkington Optimirror™ Protect range.

Glass Systems benefit-led category icon

Glass Systems

Pilkington Planar™ is a structural glazing system, allowing architects immense flexibility in the appearance of facades, whilst incorporating all of the functionality required from windows in today’s buildings. Pilkington Planar Activ™ combines the design freedom that comes with frameless glazing with the dual action self-cleaning process of Pilkington Activ™ reducing commercial façade maintenance costs.

Special Applications benefit-led category icon

Special Applications

Pilkington Optiwhite™ is an ultra-clear float glass with a very low iron content and provides the most neutral appearance available for prestigious building projects. Its appearance is also especially appropriate for use in furniture, particularly when the edge of the glass is visible. Its high light transmission makes it ideal when producing thick laminates which would otherwise attenuate much of the incident light.

Pilkington OptiView™ is an anti-reflective glass which reduces visible light reflectance to 2 percent, while blocking more than 99 percent of UV transmittance. Being anti-reflective it is ideal for a wide range of traditional and new applications, including museum displays, retail shop fronts and showrooms.

Pilkington Galleria™ is used for picture frames because it produces a diffuse reflection allowing a clearer view of the picture.
