Product Testing and Development

Overview

Testing by a third party laboratory is standard for glass and glazing which provides valuable and useful information regarding the ideal combination of fire resistant glass and corresponding system structures. Further fire tests to the various standards are carried out on a national and global scale by independent, third party test laboratories. Together with the system partners, Pilkington is following the most updated standards according to the national building regulations.

Fire rated glass products are expected to fulfill additional requirements in terms of sound insulation, security, and bullet proof characteristics in addition to the fire resistant properties. For example, Pilkington subjected various different types of glass to undergo around 500 test trials in order to obtain consistent and reliable results. For classification of the product, during preparation of the application approvals need to be obtained for fire resistant glass including barrier loading performance.
