Pilkington has won Glass Magazine's 2008 Crystal Achievement Award for Best Industry Innovation - large company.
Crystal Achievement Award

The Crystal Achievement Awards recognize significant innovations and achievements in glass technology, manufacturing and marketing.  The winners are selected by a panel of judges who represent all segments of the industry.

Pilkington was awarded the Best Industry Innovation for introducing the Spacia vacuum unit in North America. Spacia, developed and manufactured by the NSG Group in Japan, is the first sealed, vacuum insulated glass unit that provides twice the thermal insulation of a conventional unit, four times the insulation of single pane glass in a narrow profile.

Spacia uses low-E glass and a thin vacuum space to achieve its superior thermal performance. The 0.2 mm vacuum gap minimizes heat flow due to the conductance and convection between the two lites of glass, while the low-E restricts the radiation of heat flow. The construction significantly reduces HVAC loads, provides sound insulation and ultimately makes a building more energy efficient. Spacia is produced in Japan, and each project is custom built.

This is the third time Pilkington has been recognized for its product innovation, we previously won the award for Pilkington Energy Advantage™ Low-E and for Pilkington Solar-E™.
