Screening Office New Build

Porz Avenue in Dunstable is the site for a major office and industrial development that has involved the use of specialist glass supplied by Pilkington Processing and Merchanting UK.

With eight, two storey office blocks occupying the site, as well as individual industrial units, architects, the Project Design Partnership has worked in conjunction with main contractors, SDC and framemakers, Fendor Hansen, to create business facilities that will bring increased economy to the area.

For the interior of the office blocks, 15mm Pilkington Pyrostop™ was installed as firescreens for the two main stairwells in each building, totalling over 250 metres of glass. A clear, multi laminate glass, Pilkington Pyrostop™ is part of the Pilkington fire resistance range and forms an opaque barrier against, smoke, flames and heat in the event of fire breaking out. It provides a clear functional and visually appealing alternative to solid wall construction and offers enhanced impact resistance up to Class A BS6206 as well as excellent sound control. For this project, it was essential that the product met the required fire resistance of 30 minutes integrity and 30 minutes insulation.

The programme of installing the Pilkington product was undertaken by curtain walling and window contractors, Alumet Aluminium Systems UK.
