Imax CinemaThe new IMAX cinema, designed by Avery Associates Architects, is located in a sunken roundabout off Waterloo Bridge in London. The circular shape of the building is replicated internally, with fire resistant glazed screens reflecting the curved shape. Pilkington Pyrostop™ glass was supplied by Pilkington Processing and Merchanting UK.

The application comprised two staircase entrance screens, with the first offering 60 minutes fire resistance in terms of fire integrity and insulation.  The Pilkington Pyrostop™ glass was supplied in 21mm thickness for installation within the FendorHansen Fineline 50mm profiles, with the glass panes faceted at a seven degree angle.

Pilkington Pyrostop™ was also installed in the second screen and the Swingline doors, both offering 30 minutes fire integrity and insulation. Specialist and vibration dampers were fitted within the fire rated brackets of the screens as an added measure of protection from vibration caused by the London Underground train system.
