Heart of the City

Fire-resistant glass from Pilkington Processing and Merchanting UK has been installed in an extensive refurbishment project, undertaken by Try Construction Ltd and architects Munkenbeck and Marshall, on behalf of Leadenhall Property Limited. Regulations required that external fire-resistant glass be installed due to its proximity to other buildings in the area to limit any potential fire spread from building to building.

Formerly operating as the headquarters of a trading services company, 11 Leadenhall Street in London is located next to the prominent Lloyds Shipping Building and is currently undergoing a transformation into commercial office premises.

Pilkington Processing and Merchanting UK supplied Pilkington Insulight™ units incorporating 27mm Pilkington Pyrostop™ and Pilkington Suncool™ High Performance glass to framemakers, Fendor Hansen. In order to reduce sightlines Fendor Hansen manufactured, installed and glazed the external fixed glazing within the building fabric thus creating an aesthetic glazing system, which was flush fitting to the building and enhanced the overall surroundings. A key element to the success of the installation was to combine the benefits of solar control and thermal insulation offered by Pilkington Suncool™ High Performance with the fire performance of 27mm Pilkington Pyrostop™ - 60 minutes Integrity and 60 minutes Insulation - which was required by building control.

Pilkington Pyrostop™ is a clear, multi-laminate glass, which is part of the Pilkington fire-resistant glass range. It forms an opaque barrier against smoke, flames and heat in the event of fire. It provides a clear functional and visually appealing alternative to solid wall construction and offers enhanced impact resistance up to Class A BS6206.

Pilkington is renowned for the assurance it offers in terms of the quality of the end product and throughout all stages of the manufacturing process. Pilkington Processing and Merchanting UK is highly focused on service and quality and represents Pilkington within the market with a 21 strong branch structure nationwide, merchanting bulk glass and processed bespoke products.
