Pilkington Energy Efficiency Trust

The energy used by buildings accounts for almost half of all the energy consumed in the UK. And yet our buildings have the potential to be much more energy efficient, thereby using less energy without compromising comfort. That is why the government has made improvements in the energy efficiency of buildings a major part of their strategy to reduce UK carbon emissions by 60% by the year 2050.
One way in which Pilkington hopes to make a contribution to this objective is through the work of the Pilkington Energy Efficiency Trust (PEET). Pilkington set up PEET to give financial support for research projects which are designed to improve the knowledge or practice of energy efficiency in buildings. Although funded by Pilkington, PEET is run by a Board of Trustees who are independent of the company. It is they who receive applications for funding and decide which research projects to support.

PEET Gets Heated About Bubble Technology For Energy Efficient Greenhouses
Nottingham University’s School of the Built Environment, under the auspices of Professor Saffa Riffat, is currently evaluating the use of bubbles – of the bubble-bath or ‘blowing’ variety - as insulants for a new generation of super energy-efficient horticultural ‘tunnel’ greenhouses. The project, which involves computer modelling, laboratory testing and the construction of a unit for field trial, is one of a number of academic and practical energy efficiency research projects funded by the Pilkington Energy Efficiency Trust (PEET), a non-profit making organisation funded by Pilkington, one of the world’s largest and most innovative glass makers. Projects do not have to be glass-related. Read more
PEET Puts Wind Into The Sails Of Building Turbine Project
The most comprehensive study of building mounted wind turbines in the UK has received financial support from the Pilkington Energy Efficiency Trust (PEET) which, with other high profile backers, is enabling the evaluation of 23 sites across Britain in the Warwick Urban Wind Trial Project. Pilkington, one of the world’s largest and most innovative glass makers, provides the income to PEET which has provided funding for a large number of academic and practical energy efficiency projects. These do not have to be glass-related. Read more
PEET Backs Young Campaign To Tackle Climate Change
Pilkington Energy Efficiency Trust (PEET), the organisation established to give financial support for energy efficiency research, testing or evaluation projects for the built-environment, has backed the Woodcraft Folk and its ambitious C-Change Project (www.switchonswitchoff.org) by funding the development of a key element of the project, Climate: Mobile, a mobile-phone based carbon calculator for young people primarily in the 11-21 age group.
