Pilkington Knowledge Courses

We hold two levels of training course at quarterly intervals throughout the year.  PK1 is an introduction to glass and PK2 a more detailed course involving determination of glass specifications.  The Product Knowledge course dates for 2009 are as follows:

Prices for 2009 are PK1 £250 ex vat and PK2 £490 ex vat.  The prices do not include travel to and from St Helens or hotel accommodation and food which will need to be paid by the attendees.  Course trips , lunch and transport to and from the hotel or course venues is included.  Candidates are booked into the Park Hotel St Helens where possible.  If you wish to use another hotel then we can suggest alternatives.  Transport is only provided to and from our preferred hotel for the course duration. 

To reserve a place on either of the courses please download the following registration form, complete fully and either email to pkcourses@respond.uk.com or fax to 01744 69 2880 with the course type (PK1 or PK2) and the date you require. Our team will then verify your reservation and confirm your place as appropriate.  Note that the demand for places on these courses is high and we frequently have to dissapoint late bookers but we also suffer from late cancellations.  For 2009 and onwards we are unable to accept cancellations at very short notice and will charge in full for any cancellations within 10 working days of the course start date.

PK1

PK1 is over two days and includes trips out to our local works and the World of Glass museum in St Helens.  PK 1 is an introduction to the float glass process, Pilkington products for: safety and security, fire protection, energy management, noise control, decoration and privacy, special applications.

 

PK2

PK2 is over three days and includes a copy of the technical advisory software used to calculate glass strength for various applications.  The topics covered include:

  • Noise control - selecting glass to achieve desired internal noise levels given the external noise source.
  • Mechanical strength -  glass to withstand wind and snow loads, glass for barriers, glass for floors, glass for fins, aquaria glass.
  • Pilkington Planar™ - History and applications
  • European Standards and CE marking
  • Energy management - U value calculations for IGU's and windows, predicting condensation, WER's and document L, solar control.
  • Thermal safety - calculating thermal risk.
