Our Product Knowledge courses, PK1 and PK2 have an excellent reputation so places are snapped up pretty rapidly. Designed to give you and your customers technical information about all our products, they are held four times each a year. PK1 provides an introduction to glass including tours of our factories which really bring the product to life, whilst PK2 is a more detailed course for those who are responsible for glass specifications. From May, bookings and arrangements for both will be managed by the call centre at DMS. PK1 is held over two days and is an introduction to the float glass process, Pilkington products for: safety and security, fire protection, energy management, noise control, decoration and privacy, special applications. The course includes trips to our local works and the world of glass museum in St Helens.
PK2 is held over three days and covers:
• Noise control - selecting glass to achieve desired internal noise levels given the external noise source.
• Mechanical strength - glass to withstand wind and snow loads, glass for barriers, glass for floors, glass for fins, aquaria glass.
• Pilkington Planar™ - history and applications
• European Standards and CE marking
• Energy management - U value calculations for IGU's and windows, predicting condensation, WER's and document L, solar control.
• Thermal safety - calculating thermal risk.
