Ostervig Plant & Polish Airlines Aviation Hall Warsaw, Poland

The architects selected Pilkington Profilit™ to meet the required façade effect of semi-opaque screens, as pointed out by architect Stefan Kurylowicz.

Two types of Profilit ™ have been used Pilkington Profilit ™Amethyst K 25, with a bluish tint, on the outside, and Pilkington Profilit ™, with a low emissivity coating, "plus 1.7" K25, on the inside. The double glazing combination ensures very good heat insulation (U=1.8/m2K).

The glass components were assembled directly on site using an aluminium profile framework. The bluish exterior panels and the slightly coloured interior panels creates an opaque façade with an astonishing appearance, a smoky colour with a greenish dominant hue that, as night falls, diffuses a gentle light inside the building.

The Hall of Memory, located within the new headquarters of LOT, Poland's national airline carrier, provides a further demonstration of what can be achieved with the Pilkington Profilit ™ system. The architects have taken the interior of the building into account, building a large atrium over a broad suspended area. The client wished to create a space that could be used, in the future, as an exhibition area for LOT's 100^th anniversary.

A perpendicular hall was designed with two parallel façades and a roof made of Pilkington Profilit™. The panels were mounted as double glazed units. The inner surface consisted of Pilkington Profilit™ K25 with wire inlay whilst the outer surface consisted of neutral Pilkington Profilit ™ K25.

The objective was to ensure the Hall of Memory could serve as a visitor's exhibition area that could be fully appreciate without disturbance from the activity going on around them. The semi-opaque screens thus afford sufficient light inside the hall.
