Description

W&W Glass, accredited designer, installer and sole distributor of Pilkington Planar™ structural glass facades in the US, consulted with the design team of HOK Architects and Advanced Structures Incorporated (ASI) to achieve a unique skylight system in the new Airside 2 Terminal.

The project marked the first combined use, in the United States of laminated glass structural fins and a cable tension structure to support large Pilkington Planar glass roofs. There are three, approximately 4000 square foot, skylights forming a central hub. The laminated glass fins were used in place of added trusses to achieve a greater level of transparency. A custom exterior ceramic frit was used to diminish glare on the skylight facing the Control Tower, along with four different ceramic frit and low-e coatings for the insulated, laminated glass. The hardware is Pilkington Planar™ stainless steel castings and 902 fittings.
